Melanie King Hecker, Au.D.

HISTORY OF PROFESSIONALISM…..
Dr. Melanie King Hecker joined the Hearing Professionals family in 2009 while completing her Doctorate of Audiology through Towson University. In 2010, after graduation, she became the lead audiologist overseeing clinical operations at the Hearing Professionals clinic in Laurel. Dr. Hecker’s previous clinical experience has been in an array of clinical audiological settings, including participation in the Cleft Lip and Palate team at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center as well as working with cochlear implant and special needs students in the Baltimore City Public School System. Additionally, Dr. Hecker also provided services at private practice audiology and otolaryngology settings in the Greater Baltimore/Washington Metro area.


EDUCATION IS KEY….
Dr. Hecker completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Florida in 2006. Dr. Hecker relocated to Maryland in the summer of 2006 to pursue studies in Audiology at Towson University, receiving her Doctorate of Audiology degree in 2010. While at Towson University, Dr. Hecker Performed numerous research studies under the guidance of Dr. Brian Kreisman, focusing on current hearing aid technologies for the enhancement of speech understanding and localization, specifically in the geriatric population. Through this research, Dr. Hecker was provided the opportunity to visit hearing aid research centers in Denmark to gain greater understanding of the research process and the most cutting edge technologies. Dr. Hecker is currently a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA), is a member of the Maryland Academy of Audiology (MAA) and is licensed in the state of Maryland.

THE ULTIMATE GOAL…..
Dr. Hecker’s ultimate goal is to provide optimal hearing and balance healthcare for patients, ranging from pediatric to geriatric, in order to improve the quality of her patient’s lives, as well as their families, through outstanding, individualized treatment and care.

Dr. Hecker resides with her husband in Baltimore, Maryland. She enjoys entertaining, traveling, sports, hiking, fishing and a good book.
